“Last year, 5 women per hour were killed by family members or lovers.”
Last year, more than five women were killed every hour worldwide by family members or lovers.
According to a report released by the United Nations ahead of the International Day on Violence Against Women, 81,100 women were murdered around the world last year.
Of these, 45,000 (56%) were killed by family members or close partners.
That’s 5.1 women killed in the private sector every hour.
The United Nations also pointed out that 40% of the cases seem to correspond to ‘femicide’, which were killed simply because they were women for no particular reason.
