“‘There is no person responsible nor a sincere apology’, ‘It’s not incompetent, it was neglected’, ‘Minister Lee Sang-min must step down’, ‘I don’t know who (other bereaved families) are’… Every word I threw was a cry that came out of immeasurable pain.”

Park Hong-geun, the floor leader of the Democratic Party, quoted the remarks of a family member of the Itaewon disaster who had an interview with the people’s power, and criticized the ruling party’s response to the Itaewon disaster.

On the afternoon of the 21st, the People’s Power leadership met with about 20 bereaved families of the Itaewon disaster privately for about 2 hours at the National Assembly. The interview was conducted at the request of the bereaved family.

Representative Park said at the in-hospital countermeasures meeting held at the National Assembly headquarters on the 22nd, “The leadership of the people’s strength met the families of the Itaewon disaster in private. It is fortunate that they met Mansijitan or now.”

He said, “I am disappointed with the government’s continued evasive attitude, from poor preventive measures, incompetent response to the disaster scene, and irresponsible post-recovery measures, and it is truly (the bereaved family) collapsed.” I demanded that the truth be revealed through a state affairs investigation,” he said.

“The leadership of the people’s strength, who heard the bloody voices of the bereaved families, must no longer ignore the truth and responsibility,” he said.

In addition, “Ho-young Joo, the head of the People’s Power, sympathized with the need for a government investigation yesterday and proposed a plan to promote (state investigation) after the budget bill was processed,” he said. It is meaningful because it is the first time that I have expressed my forward-looking position to conduct a parliamentary investigation in response to the demands of the people and the opposition party, out of my position.”

Wonnae Park said, “I don’t think that the leadership of the people’s strength has taken out a’card for avoiding responsibility’ by wasting time again in a situation where they met the bereaved family members who are losing their loved ones and are going through days of sadness.” If you are determined to participate in the government investigation to find out the truth of the Itaewon disaster, please clarify the official position of the ruling party as soon as possible.”

The Democratic Party plans to pass a plan for a parliamentary investigation into the Itaewon disaster at the plenary session of the National Assembly on the 24th. However, it was suggested that the timing of the parliamentary investigation itself could change according to the will of the people. In a meeting with reporters after the in-hospital countermeasures meeting, Oh Young-hwan, spokesman for the hospital, said about the Democratic Party’s official position, “I think we will know what kind of joining (the power of the people) will take when specific discussions are held.”
