On the 1st, President Yoon Seok-yeol designated seven areas, including Dongcheon-dong, Suji-gu, Yongin-si, as special disaster zones, which suffered massive damage due to torrential rains last month.
President Yoon urged the relevant agencies to implement the disaster relief funds before Chuseok quickly and without discrimination so that the affected people can recover from the flood and return to their daily lives as soon as possible.
Flood victims in the Dongcheon-dong area receive not only disaster assistance in general affected areas, such as deferment of national and local taxes, but also reductions in health insurance premiums and public charges such as electricity, telecommunication, and city gas. Reservists are exempt from mobilization training.
As Dongcheon-dong is designated as a special disaster zone, Yongin City will be able to receive 50-80% of the cost of recovering from floods in Dongcheon-dong from the government.
In Dongcheon-dong, from the 8th to the 15th of last month, 534mm of heavy rain fell, causing damage to about 3.8 billion won (city estimate), including the collapse of bridges and trails and the flow of soil. The city-wide damage was estimated at 7.1 billion won.
Earlier, on the 22nd of last month, Mayor Lee directly requested Minister of the Interior and Safety Lee Sang-min to designate Dongcheon-dong as a special disaster zone.
Yongin Special Mayor Lee Sang-il said, “Dongcheon-dong, which suffered a lot of damage from heavy rain, was declared a special disaster area and gained a lot of momentum for flood recovery. will be prepared,” he said.
