UAE Artificial Rainfall Research Program UAEREP Selected as 4th Winner

DUBAI, UAE–(Business Wire / Korea Newswire) January 14, 2022 — UAEREP, UAE’s artificial rainfall research program Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and UAE At the opening ceremony of Expo 2020 Dubai, sponsored by the Minister of the Office of the President, the winners of the Fourth Cycle grant were announced. Each winner will receive a total of $1.5 million over three years.

The winners were Dr. Bradley Baker and Dr. Luca Delle Monache. Dr. Baker, Senior Researcher at SPEC Inc., proposed the study of ‘Enhancing Rain in the UAE via Hygroscopic Seeding with Nano-Seeding Material’, and Dele Dr. Monache is conducting research on A Hybrid Machine Learning Framework for Enhanced Precipitation Nowcasting, and is Associate Director at the Western Weather and Walker Extreme Center (CW3E) at the Scripps Institute of Oceanography. Oceanography) and the University of California, San Diego.

The goal of Dr. Baker’s project is to determine whether nano-cloud seed material and charge generators could influence the secondary ice crystallization process, potentially enhancing artificial rainfall. Dr. Baker is conducting research to numerically simulate cumulus clouds using SPEC Incorporated’s Learjet research aircraft and NCM’s meteorological aircraft King Air.

Dr. Dele Monache is working hard to create a test bed for artificial intelligence (AI) research and operation in the UAE. The idea is to establish an AI framework that combines satellite observations, ground weather radar data, rain gauges, and numerical forecasts to identify the best place and time to sow clouds. It is expected that more accurate quantitative precipitation estimation will be possible for the evaluation of rainfall improvement programs.

Dr Abdulla Al Mandous, Director of the NCM and President of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) 2nd Regional Association (Asia), said, “UAEREP is a program launched with the goal of safeguarding global water security by opening a new era in artificial rainfall research. “I am confident that the previously award-winning projects and these proposals will provide a solid scientific foundation that will lead to solutions to the problem of water scarcity.”

Alya Al Mazroui, General Manager of UAEREP, said, “I am proud of the achievements of this program, which has been conducted until the 4th semester. “It will greatly advance artificial rainfall research,” he said.
