Dear Mr Anan,

Your are well aware of the situation in Syria and especially the Kurds. On the 10/05/2005 Sheikh Mohammad Ma’shouq El-khaznawy disappeared from his office in Damascus . The Syrian authorities handed his body to his family on the 01/06/2005 in the city of Der el-Zor. According to Amnesty International and the K urdish parties in Syria that Sheikh K haznawy was tortured and died from torture.  The Syrian authorities denied this so the truth is hidden. 

Sheikh K haznawy was an outspoken member of the K urdish community. He was a critic of violence and terrorism and recently called for reforms in Syria and for more dialogue between religious groups. He seeked the K urdish rights in Syria in a peaceful way.

We believe that the Syrian government is responsible for the death of Sheikh El- K haznawy and we call upon the international community to investigate in the death of Sheikh El- K haznawy and other K urds who have died under tortured in Syrian jails.
